This is something that you can't do with wood tables but because most of them are treated it will create much more work for you.

Something you need to think about when it comes to slate coffee tables is that they will hold their value much longer and when it comes time to get rid of it you will get a much better price. The reason slate holds its value much better and much longer is because people can reuse slate for higher priced items that they can with wood.

If you do not have a drill press or a mortising tool, you may be able to hire this part of your job out to someone who does.
